The Virtual Conference ‘Time for Beauty’ generously sponsored by the British Society for Aesthetics is now live.
About the virtual conference
While we typically associate beauty in pictures with spatial qualities, such as curves and lines, and beauty in music with temporal qualities like rhythm and melody, nostalgia challenges this dichotomy. Pictures can represent nostalgia (or other emotions) and thus demonstrate a time-indexed aesthetic quality.
Despite this, the temporal aspect of static pictures has been relatively neglected in the philosophy of art. In this workshop, we bring together researchers from a broad spectrum of philosophical disciplines, art critics, and artists to illuminate the aesthetic temporal qualities of static paintings and photographs.
