Francis Bacon and the Time of Monsters

The Monster as Warning - Prologue

Francis Bacon and the Time of Monsters explores Francis Bacon’s paintings through philosophy, photography, violence and the representation of the human body.

This prologue introduces the figure of the monster: as warning, disturbance and challenge to established ideas of order, and as a point at which fear, desire and the possibility of transformation converge.

These films are generously funded by a British Society of Aesthetics Small Grant Award.
